Podgorica, Montenegro (27 February 2020) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković met earlier today with representatives of Croatia company Končar, led by President of the Management Board Gordan Kolak and discussed opportunities for investments in the energy sector, traffic, but also the education and professional training for young people.

"Montenegro has achieved respectable rates of economic growth over the past three years. We enhanced the business environment and constantly work to boost the efficiency of public administration. We have made a turn towards renewable energy sources in the energy sector, and there we have huge potential for sustainable development and significant investments that are being implemented," Prime Minister Markovic pointed out.

It has been in existence for 99 years, operates in more than 50 countries in the world and has been present in Montenegro for almost seven decades, President of the Management Board Kolak stressed, talking about his company. The Končar is interested in stronger investments to the revitalisation of infrastructure in hydropower facilities and seeks to strengthen strategic partnerships with Montenegrin companies, the President of the Management Board stressed. 

The Končar also wants to contribute to the transmission and distribution of electricity, rail transport and infrastructure. Regarding the experience having in research and development, ICT and digitalisation, they voiced a readiness to cooperate in these areas as well.

Prime Minister Marković added that the investment cycle in Montenegrin energy is estimated at over EUR 300 million, for the next five years. The presence of large and successful companies, such as Končar, is significant for Montenegro not only because of money, but also the knowledge that comes in this way, the Prime Minister specified. 

Therefore, the meeting discussed training and practice opportunities for students and engineers from Montenegrin companies.

Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Montenegro Veselko Grubišić, also attended the meeting.
