Podgorica, Montenegro (22 January 2020) -- Montenegro has no alternative when it comes to the European integration and on this path it has the support of the European Parliament, it was noted at a meeting of Prime Minister Duško Marković and member of European Parliament and Permanent Rapporteur for Montenegro Tonino Picula.

"I am pleased that Montenegro will have an opportunity to cooperate with a person who knows the region and the occasions in our countries well and who understands the significance of the enlargement policy, not only within the context of stability but also overall progress," the Prime Minister stated.

Our country wants to be a member of the Union, when it is ready for it, because it wants to be a new value and quality in the EU, not a problem, Prime Minister Marković stated. Montenegro's focus, he added, is on further reforms and measurable results in the rule of law. The two officials agreed on the full functionality of the Parliament and the political system importance for further progress of the state and society towards the EU and the particular importance of political consensus and dialogue, when it comes to the process of the European integration and implementation of reforms.

Member of European Parliament Picula noted that the results achieved by Montenegro should be respected, but also that there was a lot of work to be done before full membership to the Union. He added that Montenegro has done a lot and that through the partnership we have, the European Parliament and other European institutions will continue to help our country.

The meeting noted that it was important to provide a better life for citizens and in this regard, Prime Minister Marković spoke about the recovery of our public finances, strong economic growth and conditions for a better quality of life.
