Prime Minister Duško Marković congratulated Orthodox believers and priesthood on Christmas, saying that Montenegro is being developed, that citizens see and recognise the benefits of stability and peace, and that Montenegrin society now needs the unity of divided Orthodox Christians.

"Since the festive joys are dominated by love and forgiveness, we should once again remember the qualities that adorn our Montenegro, and continue to contribute to traditional harmony, communion and trust, not only among denominations, but also within them. Today, our country is being developed and built on the basis of democratic and most developed countries, and citizens are increasingly recognising the benefits of stability and peace, which has given us this momentum of development," the Prime Minister said.

PM Marković noted that the Law on Freedom of Religion or Belief and Legal Status of Religious Communities, which caused controversy, should be seen as a new beginning of coexistence and trust, not division.

"It is a legal regulation that removes not only the cultural and religious but also the civilizational restriction in which we find ourselves. In order for everyone, especially believers and citizens, to understand the current context in the right way, the greatest responsibility is borne by those with the most influence, political or religious. Therefore, it is our duty to do everything in our power to reach unity in Montenegro and continue on the same path. My Christmas wish is exactly what is most needed for Montenegrin society today: to unite a divided Orthodox Christians, to have brothers go together to churches, temples and prayers, to show that temples are not tight for any national or civil society. Believing that together we can achieve these goals, I once again congratulate all Orthodox believers and the clergy on the most joyous Christian holiday," Prime Minister Duško Marković stressed.
