PM Markovic meets with UN top officials: Montenegro is based on principles underlying UN as well, you can count on us

New York, the USA (29 September 2018) -- At the end of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Duško Marković met with top officials of the World Organisation, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President-elect of the 73rd session Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, respectively.

Reiterating Montenegro’s strong commitment to respecting the fundamental principles and strengthening the role of the United Nations as the only platform within which it is possible to defend the common values, Prime Minister Marković underlined that Montenegro is based on the principles underlying the United Nations as well.

"Montenegro is a country of multinational and multireligious harmony. It is a small country, but a country with a vision. Our country is your sincere partner in the reforms that you have started. Therefore, you can count on us," the Prime Minister said at meetings with the UN top officials.

The UN officials thanked Prime Minister Marković for supporting UN reform process, and, in particular, stressed the constructive and stabilising role of Montenegro in the Western Balkan region.

PM Marković noted that the cooperation between Montenegro and the entire UN system in the past period, and especially since the restoration of the Montenegrin independence, has been valuable for Montenegro, in particular for the processes of strengthening the country’s institutions and capacities.

The meetings were attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović and Head of the Permanent Mission of Montenegro to the United Nations Milica Pejanović Đurišić.
